Duration of Expedition

The expedition to climb K2 typically lasts around 45 to 55 days. This includes preparation, trekking to the base camp, acclimatization, summit attempts, descent, and debriefing. The duration can vary based on factors like the chosen route, weather conditions, and team experience.

Pre-requisites to Climb K2

Mountaineering Experience: Climbers attempting K2 should have extensive high-altitude mountaineering experience, including successful ascents of other challenging peaks.

Physical Fitness: Excellent physical fitness is essential for climbers tackling K2. Rigorous training regimes should include cardio workouts, strength training, and endurance exercises.

Technical Skills: Climbers must possess advanced technical skills in ice climbing, rock climbing, and glacier travel, as K2 presents steep and technical terrain requiring expert handling.

Altitude Acclimatization: Prior experience with altitude acclimatization is crucial to mitigate the risk of altitude sickness and ensure climbers can adapt to the thin air at high elevations.

Training Plan

Day 1
  • Arrive at Islamabad Airport, complete visa procedures, and be welcomed by our envoy. Transfer to the hotel, where you can explore cultural landmarks like the Pakistan Monument, Lok Virsa Museum, and Faisal Mosque.

 

Day 2
  • Complete official procedures, briefing, and gear preparation. Introduce yourself to fellow trekkers and have a spare day for any additional preparations.

 

Day 3-4

 

  • Fly to Skardu, refresh, and explore the city. Guides will brief about the expedition, preparing you for the upcoming days.

 

 

Day 5
  • Embark on a thrilling drive to Askole, the last station before venturing into the wild Karakoram region. Settle in and prepare for camping.

 

Day 6

Trek to Jhola (3185m)

  • Start the trek from Askole to Jhola, experiencing the beauty of the Karakoram region and ascending 385m. Camp in Jhola.

 

Day 7

 

  • Continue the journey to Paiyu, gaining an altitude of 3383m. Paiyu will be the campsite for the next two days.

 

Day 8

 

  • Take a day of rest in Paiyu, enjoying the golden sunrise over Paiyu Peak and preparing for the next stop, Urdukas.

 

Day 9

 

  • Embark on a challenging trek to Urdukas, encountering rocky moraines of the Baltoro Glacier and witnessing breathtaking views. Camp and prepare for Goro.

 

Day 10

 

  • Trek to Goro II, a relieving day with a moderate ascent of 120m. Marvel at the spectacular Masherbrum, Muztagh Tower, and Gasherbrum IV. Camp in Goro II.

 

Day 11

 

  • Continue the journey to Broad Peak Base Camp, ascending 322m. Witness magnificent peaks like Mustagh Tower, Gasherbrum, and Broad Peak. Camp in Concordia.

 

Day 12

 

  • Ascend to K2 Base Camp, starting early through small glacier rivers. Reach the traditional base camp, explore Gilkey Memorial, and witness the majestic K2.

 

Day 13-43

 

  • Stay at the base camp, prepare for the climb, and make rotation climbs to high camps 1, 2, and 3. Sherpas will fix routes to the Summit. Reach the Summit, spend time enjoying the surrounding massif, and descend to the Base Camp.

 

Day 44

 

  • Prepare for descending back to high camps and the base camp, evaluating weather conditions. Rest at the base camp.

 

Day 45-48

Descend from the base camp to Gora II, following the descending route back to Askole. Reach Askole, a small town in Shigar valley.

 

Day 49

 

  • Drive back to Skardu, rest after a seven-hour drive from Askole, and prepare for the flight to Islamabad.

 

Day 50

 

  • Fly back to Islamabad and enjoy an aerial view of the capital city.

 

Day 51

 

  • Relax in Islamabad, exploring cultural places like The Pakistan Monument, Lok Virsa Museum, Faisal Mosque, Margalla Hills, and Daman-e-Koh.

 

Day 52

 

  • The expedition concludes. Farewell with memories as you are escorted to Islamabad Airport for your scheduled flight back home.

High Altitude Climbing Sherpa: 1 veteran and government-licensed climbing Sherpa per member, during the entire climb.

Climbing Sherpa Salary & Allowance: Climbing Sherpa Salary, Equipment, Food, and Clothing.

Oxygen Supply: Summit Oxygen cylinder: 5 oxygen bottles (4 liters) for each member and 3 oxygen bottles for each high-altitude Sherpa.

Oxygen Mask & Regulator: 1 Set of Summit Oxygen masks & regulator for each member and high-altitude Sherpa.

Back-Up Oxygen: Back-up Oxygen Cylinder, mask, and regulator (Subject to a charge).

High Camp Service (Infrastructure and Logistics): High Altitude Tent, Necessary cooking EPI gas, cooking pot, High food for a member, Sherpa, and other crews at (C1) (C2) (C3) and (C4). Group climbing gears, fixed and dynamic rope during the climbing period as required.

High Altitude Tent: Members will share tents in high camps (2 members: 1 tent).

Things to Note

Challenging Terrain: Trekking in the Karakoram Region poses challenges due to its unpredictable weather. While we strive to schedule trips in optimal seasons, please note that the itinerary may be subject to change based on trip complexities. Rest assured, the quality of service will remain uncompromised.

Flight Delays or Cancellations: In the event of delayed or canceled flights, clients are responsible for covering the expenses of extra days beyond the itinerary. However, Climb Himalayas will make necessary arrangements for your convenience at a reasonable extra charge.

Missed International Flights: We are not liable for missed international flights or any loss of luggage before our reception. However, we aim to minimize any inconvenience you may face. It's advisable to schedule flexible time frames before and after the trip departure.

Travel Light: Climbers are advised against carrying extravagant materials for comfort. Instead, focus on maintaining mental and physical health, which is essential for enduring remoteness, higher altitudes, extreme weather, and separation from family.
