Mr. Prakash Gurung, a renowned mountaineer and experienced expedition leader, serves as the Director of Climb Himalayas Pvt. Ltd. With an illustrious career spanning over a decade, Prakash has made significant contributions to Nepal’s mountaineering industry by leading successful expeditions to some of the most challenging peaks in the world, including Mt. Everest, Mt. Manaslu, Himlung, Amadablam and Lobuche Peak. His technical expertise, leadership skills, and passion for exploration make him a prominent figure in the Himalayan climbing community.
Prakash is highly trained in advanced mountaineering, rescue operations, and wilderness first responder, equipping him to navigate high-altitude challenges and ensure the safety of his teams. An IFMGA Certified Mountain Guide, a member of the Technical Committee of the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA), and instructor at the Nepal Mountaineering Instructors Association (NMIA), he is recognized for his commitment to safety and his role in promoting responsible climbing practices. Prakash Gurung, along with Pur Bahadur Gurung (Yukta), is the first to achieve the ascent of Khumjungar Peak, standing at 6757 meters.
Beyond his mountaineering achievements, Prakash is an accomplished educator who actively shares his expertise with aspiring adventurers. He has conducted numerous training sessions, including courses on ice climbing, rock climbing, mountain rescue, and practical mountaineering management, mentoring a new generation of climbers. His teaching endeavors are complemented by his continuous efforts to innovate and uplift Nepal’s mountaineering standards.
Prakash’s extensive expedition portfolio includes summits of Mt. Everest (8,848.86 m), Mt. Manaslu (8,163 m), Himlung (7,126 m), Lobuche Peak (6,119 m), Dhampus Peak (6,012 m) and Amadablam (6,812 m), among others. He has also been involved in challenging ascents such as the South Face of Mt. Lhotse up to 7,200 m. His rescue missions, including the Tara Air Search and Rescue in Mustang, highlight his ability to perform under pressure and his dedication to saving lives in the mountains.
